TasmaniaTogether 10 Year Review

The Premier, Lara Giddings, today tabled the 10 year review of the Tasmania Together process.

Ms Giddings said the process, which was introduced by former Premier Jim Bacon, is used to gauge community views and measure the state’s progress against a number of core goals.

“Tasmania Together provides a benchmark for all levels of Government to aspire to and we will continue to strive to achieve all of our goals by 2020,” Ms Giddings said.

“The practical value of Tasmania Together is the extensive data collected from across Government agencies.

“The importance of this as a policy tool was demonstrated this year, with much of the data used to inform the State Government’s new Economic Development Plan.

“The recently released Cost of Living Strategy also utilised TasmaniaTogether’s consultation data to paint a more complete picture of community perspectives on this important issue.

“It will continue to be an important tool to measure our progress as we work to implement Professor David Adams’ recommendations.

Ms Giddings said between September and December 2010, the TasmaniaTogether Board undertook an extensive consultation process non-government organisations, business, interest groups and individuals.

“This process resulted in the recommended introduction of 29 new measures and the deletion or replacement of 25 measures.

“Some of the new areas for measurement include income distribution, social disorder, school attendance, infant health, homelessness, transport and renewable energy.

“Today I have moved a motion recommending that the Parliament adopt these recommendations in full.

“This process of continual review is important to ensure that Tasmania Together remains relevant in line with evolving community attitudes and expectations.”
